Job summary

The Indian Health Service seeks a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to provide diagnostic laboratory testing across chemistry, microbiology, hematology, molecular diagnostics, immunology, and immunohematology at facilities serving American Indian communities.

You will perform quality control, interpret results, collect specimens, and support QA activities to ensure compliance with accreditation and federal standards; a federal background check is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or graduate level degree in biological science/chemistry/mathematics with MLS/CLS program or 4‑year course incl. 12 months in a qualified medical technology program; or degree with science credits plus 5 years of clinical lab experience.
• One year of graduate‑level education in clinical laboratory science/medical technology or related field; or a combination meeting GS grade requirements.
• Superior Academic Achievement: GPA ≥ 2.95 for GS-07 qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized clinical laboratory testing across chemistry, microbiology, hematology, molecular diagnostics, immunology, and immunohematology.
• Interpret and verify test results, troubleshoot discrepancies and equipment malfunctions, and implement corrective actions.
• Collect, prepare, and evaluate patient specimens with proper handling and documentation.
• Perform quality control, proficiency testing, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Support laboratory operations through QA activities, procedure development, inventory management, and technical guidance to staff.
