Qualifications

Clinical Laboratory Scientist - IRL 3rd Shift (First shift training for 8 months)

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Manager of Immunohematology Reference Laboratory, performs advanced immunohematology testing on clinical and research specimens. Provides correct blood products for transfusion based on test results. Performs molecular testing if applicable, and blood component preparation. Ensures timely and accurate blood provision and offers phone consultation to customers.

Responsibilities
  1. Handle and process specimens with proper identification.
  2. Perform serologic and molecular tests according to SOP.
  3. Recognize and resolve procedural discrepancies.
  4. Interpret and report laboratory results.
  5. Maintain accurate records.
  6. Prepare reagents and operate laboratory equipment, performing quality control.
  7. Manage inventory of reagents and materials.
  8. Review and release test results, ensuring accuracy.
  9. Follow all FDA, AABB, CLIA, OSHA, and CAP regulations and standards.
  10. Support implementation and validation of new tests/equipment.
  11. Assist in training new staff and students.
  12. Provide on-call or overtime coverage as needed.
  13. Communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
  14. Participate in quality and process improvements.
  15. Support Versiti’s mission and values.
  16. Perform other duties within scope as assigned.
  17. Adhere to all policies and standards.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field, or Medical Technology certification.
Experience
  • 1-3 years in an Immunohematology reference laboratory or transfusion service preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of immunohematology and immunology.
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Accurate record-keeping skills.
  • Effective communication abilities.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
Licenses and Certifications
  • MLS/CLS/MT/BB certification from ASCP or equivalent.
  • Alternatively, a two-year degree with MLT certification and 4-6 years IRL experience.
Tools and Technology
  • PC, office equipment, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Laboratory equipment including centrifuges, cell washers, incubators.
  • Molecular instrumentation like light cyclers.
  • Pipettes, pH meters, microscopes.
