Summary:
This role involves performing routine and complex laboratory procedures, including specimen processing, testing, calculating, and reporting results. It also includes quality control, instrument operation and maintenance, assisting in developing new procedures, and may involve phlebotomy and other patient-related tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Perform all routine and complex laboratory procedures in the assigned section, ensuring accurate results.
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on laboratory instruments and equipment, notifying Biomedical staff as needed.
- Cross-train in other laboratory sections as required.
- Ensure proper adherence to the laboratory's quality control protocols.
- Calculate, verify, and document laboratory results.
- Utilize the Laboratory Information System effectively.
- Notify and document critical laboratory values promptly.
- Handle patient specimens with care, including collection and processing, mindful of pediatric specimen volume requirements when applicable.
- Participate in the evaluation, development, and implementation of new testing procedures and protocols.
- Perform patient care responsibilities competently, considering the specific needs of the patient population served.
- Adapt patient assessment and care methods to meet individual physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs.
- Adhere to the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health.
- Complete all required compliance and regulatory tasks, following applicable policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education/Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a relevant laboratory science or medical technology field from an accredited institution, or equivalent training and experience meeting CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489 (including U.S. Military laboratory training courses of at least 50 weeks).
- Alternatively, education evaluated by an acceptable credentialing agency as equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field.
Experience:
- No experience required for graduates of approved or accredited clinical laboratory training programs.
- Or, one year of approved clinical laboratory experience, including rotations through key laboratory sections, within the last 5 years.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
- Certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS.
- Certification must be current if applicable.
- State licensure required in Louisiana.
- New graduates must obtain Board Certification within one year of hire, excluding Louisiana.
