Description

Summary:

This job involves performing routine and complex laboratory procedures, including specimen processing, testing, calculating, and reporting results. It also involves quality control, operation and maintenance of equipment, developing new procedures, and may include phlebotomy and other patient-related tasks.

Responsibilities:

• Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Perform all routine and complex laboratory procedures in the assigned section, considering age or sex-specific values.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on laboratory instruments; notify Bio-med for major repairs.
• Cross-train in other laboratory sections as needed.
• Ensure proper adherence to the laboratory's quality control program.
• Calculate, verify, and enter laboratory results.
• Utilize the Laboratory Information System effectively.
• Notify and document critical laboratory values promptly.
• Handle patient specimens, including collection, processing, and distribution, with attention to pediatric specimen volumes when applicable.
• Participate in evaluating, developing, and implementing new testing procedures and protocols.
• Perform patient care responsibilities competently, considering the specific needs of the patient population.
• Adapt assessment, treatment, and care methods to meet patients' physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs.
• Adhere to the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health.
• Complete all compliance and regulatory tasks and follow policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant science or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent training/experience per CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489.
• Alternatively, education evaluated as equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor's degree by an acceptable credentialing agency.

Experience

• No experience required for graduates of approved clinical laboratory training programs.
• One year of approved clinical laboratory experience, including rotations in key laboratory sections, within the last 5 years, is preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• Certification as MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from recognized agencies (ASCP, AMT, AAB, HEW/HHS).
• Maintain current certification if applicable.
• State licensure required in Louisiana.
• New graduates must become board certified within 1 year of hire (Louisiana excluded).

Work Schedule:

5 days a week, 8 hours per day.
