Job description

Clinical Laboratory Scientist II, Generalist - Blood Bank (3 x 8-hour shifts)

Eligible for sign-on bonus of $2,500

City of Hope's growing national system includes its Los Angeles campus, a network of clinical care locations across Southern California, a new cancer center in Orange County, California, and treatment facilities in Atlanta, Chicago, and Phoenix.

City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to the City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County's only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.

With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn't standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.

Join our Blood Bank team in Orange County and make a life-saving impact on cancer patients in the OC community. As one of the world's leading centers for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, our team delivers excellence in transfusion and stem cell support. As a team member, you will have the opportunity to contribute positively to your local community while engaging in the latest breakthroughs in blood and biotherapies.

This is a Night shift position; 10:00 pm - 6:30 am (hours may vary); initial training hours may be conducted during day shift hours. Eligible for evening shift differential.

Additional Note: This position requires flexibility to accommodate varying patient needs. Shifts may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. On-call responsibilities and mandatory overtime may also be necessary.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  1. Perform a variety of complex laboratory tests and procedures according to prescribed protocols and schedules. Complete procedures within established turnaround times.
  2. Perform quality control procedures including preventive maintenance, calibrations, review of controls, and record data on appropriate forms. Support and participate in Quality Assurance efforts and Performance Improvement processes.
  3. Utilize standard laboratory equipment, record and check results for completeness and accuracy. Perform data entry of diagnostic information.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree; Military applicants without a Bachelor's degree with the approval of CDPH-LFS (California Department of Public Health - Laboratory Field Services)
  • Minimum 2 years as a certified or licensed clinical laboratory scientist
  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist; Highly Preferred: CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Generalist) - MTA
  • Note: For candidates with less than 2 years of experience, consideration may be given for Clinical Laboratory Scientist I (Pay range: $43.17/hr - $55.04/hr - $66.92/hr)
