Responsibilities

Each individual performs only those waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA, Bus. & Prof. Code Section 1204, and must possess a degree of skill commensurate with their education, training, experience, and technical abilities. Responsibilities include:

  1. Adhering to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
  2. Following quality control policies and documenting corrective actions for deviations.
  3. Identifying problems affecting test performance and notifying supervisors or directors.
  4. Performing a variety of laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods across disciplines such as Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, and Immunology.
  5. Performing and documenting maintenance on instruments and equipment.
  6. Reviewing the accuracy of patient results prior to reporting.
  7. Recognizing age-specific differences in results from newborns to geriatrics.
  8. Ensuring proficiency testing samples are tested properly and collaborating with other labs only after testing is complete.
  9. Performing venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups if required.
  10. Assisting in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures.
  11. Adhering to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and HR policies.
  12. Potentially serving as Lead Tech in the absence of a supervisor.
  13. Managing responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  • ASCP certification or equivalent required.
  • Minimum two years of hospital laboratory experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological sciences, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as per CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
  • Current and valid State License if required by the state.
