Qualifications

• English language proficiency per 38 U.S.C. § 7403 (f).
• Education: a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Certification options: MLS Generalist (ASCP BOC) or MT Generalist (ASCP BOR) or Categorical/Specialist (AMT/ASCP).
• Exception for non-certified candidates: temporary appointments and progression toward certification are allowed.
• Note on certifications: categorical/spec technician certifications allowed for higher graded positions within certain lab lines.

Responsibilities

• CLS performs and validates laboratory testing across specialties (chemistry, microbiology, hematology, immunology).
• Maintains quality control, troubleshooting, and instrument maintenance.
• Develops and applies knowledge to ensure accuracy of test results and compliance with regulatory standards.
