Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) – Crescent City, CA

Position Overview

Executes procedures in assigned areas of the Laboratory to deliver accurate results in a timely manner. Maintains competence to perform pre‑analytic, analytic and post‑analytic procedures on biological specimens to aid health care providers in the diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and prevention of disease. Performs a variety of basic and complex Laboratory procedures, including phlebotomy, specimen processing, quality control, quality assurance, and waived, moderate or high‑complexity testing as classified by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). If assigned to the Transfusion Service, performs moderate or high‑complexity testing and other duties such as blood inventory management, blood product preparation, and issuing blood products for transfusion.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre‑analytic, analytic, and post‑analytic procedures on biological specimens.
• Collect and process specimens, conduct phlebotomy, and carry out quality control and quality assurance.
• Execute waived, moderate, or high‑complexity testing as per CLIA standards.
• Manage transfusion service duties: blood inventory management, product preparation, and issuing blood products.
• Respond to fluctuations in volume, equipment or information system failures, and shift‑to‑shift hand‑offs.
• Handle STAT test orders and specimen integrity issues.
• Review pending logs, priority assignments, and maintain workflow efficiency.
• Follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence, ensuring patient privacy and safety.
• Organize and prioritize tasks to meet expected timeframes.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree.
• Certification & Licensure: California Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS).
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent relevant experience.
• Knowledge and technical competence in routine specimen collection, preparation, testing applications, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in at least one assigned clinical specialty area (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Urinalysis, Transfusion Service).
• Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and tasks with sound judgment and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong communication and compassionate interaction with diverse patients.
• Workflow management abilities to handle fluctuations, emergencies, shift hand‑offs, STAT orders, and specimen integrity concerns.
• Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures regarding patient privacy and safety.

Schedule and Compensation

Job Shift: Day/Evening. Schedule: Full Time. Shift Hours: 10. Variable days of the week with rotating weekends. Weekly Hours: 40. Position Status: Non‑Exempt. Employee Status: Regular.

Pay Range: $61.80 to $77.24 per hour. Sign‑on bonus of $7,000.00 available for new hires. Eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.
