Responsibilities
  1. Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA, following laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient results.
  2. Follow quality control policies, document corrective actions, and identify problems affecting test performance.
  3. Perform a variety of laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines.
  4. Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment as needed.
  5. Review patient results for accuracy before reporting.
  6. Recognize age-specific differences in expected results from newborns to geriatrics.
  7. Ensure proficiency testing samples are processed similarly to patient samples and collaborate with other labs only after testing.
  8. Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture across age groups as required.
  9. Assist in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures.
  10. Adhere to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources policies.
  11. In the absence of a supervisor, may serve as Lead Tech, overseeing the section or department during their shift.
  12. May be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and POCT.
  13. Perform other tasks as assigned by the department manager or director.
Qualifications
  • ASCP certification or equivalent required within 1 year of employment.
  • One year hospital laboratory experience preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as per CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
  • Current and valid state license if required by the state.
