Summary

The Oklahoma City VA Medical Center, Specialty Care Service, is currently recruiting for a Clinical Laboratory Scientist position in Oklahoma City, OK.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Performs a broad range of laboratory procedures, including all testing and tasks of the medical laboratory technologist occupation. Performs advanced and complex laboratory procedures, recognizes deviations, and corrects problems using scientific principles.
  2. Evaluates and resolves issues related to biological specimen collection and processing, considering physiological processes and requirements.
  3. Maintains and documents the functioning of laboratory equipment, calibrates, identifies malfunctions, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance.
  4. Performs quality control and assurance activities, documents findings, and implements corrective actions using statistical principles.
  5. Adheres to biosafety and biosecurity practices and regulations.
  6. Identifies discrepancies, solves problems, and presents solutions.
  7. Responds to inquiries about test results, methodology, and factors influencing results; interprets findings and recommends follow-up procedures.
  8. Evaluates and implements new techniques and procedures, establishing reference intervals and interpreting findings.
  9. Communicates effectively with healthcare team members, provides excellent customer service, and guides testing principles.
  10. Organizes work, sets priorities, and meets deadlines.
  11. Follows all safety, health, and emergency management directives.
Work Schedule

Mon-Fri, 3:30 PM to Midnight, with rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

Requires U.S. citizenship, proficiency in English, a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, and certification as an MLS or MT by ASCP or AMT. Foreign education must be evaluated for equivalency. Certification can be pending for some applicants under specific conditions.

Grade Levels

GS-07 to GS-11, with specific experience and education requirements for each level. The full performance level is GS-11.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform moderate lifting, standing, walking, and other physical activities necessary for laboratory work, with specific visual and cognitive requirements.
