    The Clinical Laboratory Associate II (CLA II) is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Clinical Laboratory and assisting the Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) during patient testing. The role also involves providing backup support to other groups such as Reporting, Biospecimen Management, and QC. The CLA II may serve as a team lead to coordinate tasks, manage workload, oversee equipment usage, and review/organize documents. The CLA II should demonstrate competency in assisting with automated sample processing and other support functions.

    The work requires excellent attention to detail, effective communication skills, the ability to multitask and adapt, and to work independently within a team.

    Pay Differential: Employees working this 3rd shift will receive a 30% pay differential for working non-traditional hours.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Under supervision of licensed personnel, activities may include:

  1. Sample collection, receipt, preparation, labeling, handling, preservation, assay processing, transportation, and storage;
  2. Assisting CLSs in sample processing and automated testing;
  3. Performing routine equipment maintenance;
  4. Creating sample batches, printing labels, and labeling tubes and plates;
  5. Troubleshooting with licensed personnel;
  6. Preparing and storing reagents;
  7. Ordering and stocking supplies;
  8. Recording and filing laboratory records;
  9. Adding test reagents to specimens in qualitative and semi-quantitative tests, with results reviewed by licensed personnel;
  10. Monitoring storage temperatures and initiating service requests if needed;
  11. Cleaning laboratory equipment and workspaces;
  12. Documenting corrective actions for test deviations;
  13. Supporting internal audits and inspections;
  14. Maintaining laboratory and equipment schedules;
  15. Ensuring calibration and proper labeling of equipment;
  16. Revising standard operating procedures as needed;
  17. Reporting process improvements and safety concerns;
  18. Performing additional duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include an Associate degree or equivalent; a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Clinical Science, or related field is preferred. Experience in high complexity and volume laboratory settings is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate strong attention to detail, good judgment, effective communication, independence, and teamwork skills. Hours and days may vary based on operational needs, with physical requirements including standing, sitting, lifting up to 25 pounds, and exposure to laboratory hazards.

Pay range in Palo Alto or Redwood City, CA: $36.29 to $49.92 per hour. Compensation is based on location, skills, experience, and education. Benefits, overtime, bonuses, or equity are not included in this range.
