Job Description

Position: Clinical Laboratory Assistant I
Type: Part-Time; Night Shift; Every Other Saturday and Sunday, 10:30 PM - 7:00 AM

Overview: Under direct supervision, you will handle the preparation and routing of laboratory testing in various specialized laboratories within UMMS, adhering to departmental procedures and regulations under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately receive, access, and enter patient samples into the Laboratory Information System, ensuring proper coding and patient identification for billing.
  • Process specimens (centrifuging, aliquoting, special handling) and deliver them to designated laboratories. Store specimens appropriately in refrigerators, freezers, or incubators.
  • Identify and resolve specimen issues such as mislabeling, insufficient quantity, or incorrect containers, documenting all actions for quality assurance.
  • Perform add-on tests as per departmental procedures.
  • Conduct waived to moderate complexity testing if applicable.
  • Respond to phone inquiries and customer requests effectively.
Qualifications

Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Experience: Preferably one year of customer service experience.

Compensation
  • Pay Range: $17.37 - $22.90
