Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals seeks a Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform and analyze clinical tests across laboratory disciplines, adhering to SOPs and quality controls. The role emphasizes accurate result review, instrument maintenance, phlebotomy, and clear communication with nurses and physicians in a hospital setting.

Requires licensure as per state requirements, a B.S. in Medical Technology or related field, and WV HCTP/Trainee license eligibility.

Qualifications

Current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided.
BS in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science or related science degree.
WV licensing: HCTP or Trainee License issued by WV Department of Health.

Responsibilities

Process and analyze samples in a timely, productive manner while ensuring proper identification.
Set up, run, maintain, and adjust laboratory instruments per policy.
Perform quality control and follow infection control procedures.
May perform quality control summaries.
Perform phlebotomy procedures on patients as needed.
Complete forms and report findings to nurses/physicians.
Communicate with healthcare workers to interpret labs within medical technology framework.
Perform routine lab testing in designated areas.
Recognize testing inconsistencies and take corrective action.
Maintain patient and specimen records accurately.
Follow hospital, state, federal guidelines for safety and infection control.
Communicate respectfully with patients, families, staff, and public.
