Job summary

Brookwood Baptist Health in Homewood, AL, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform complex laboratory testing in our clinical lab. On day one, you will participate in a broad range of testing, results reporting, and quality control activities under supervision.

The role requires an Associate degree in a related field and ASCP/AMT certification or equivalent, with certification expected within 6 months of hire. Expect a collaborative, patient-focused lab team environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an approved school of medical laboratory technician
• Associate degree in related field
• ASCP or AMT certification or equivalent; certification required within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

• Performs moderately and highly complex laboratory testing in the clinical laboratory
• Verifies results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability
• Performs and reports routine laboratory testing following established policies and procedures
• Demonstrates computer system proficiency including ordering, resulting, and inquiry functions
• Ensures proper utilization and preparation of reagents and supplies
• Communicates critical results to the patient caregiver
• Maintains regular, punctual attendance and compliance with policies
• Practices infection control and safety, keeps a clean, organized work area
• Maintains confidentiality of patient records and departmental matters
• Performs specimen collection procedures, specimen receiving and processing as required

Education
