Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUHA) is seeking a PRN Medical Laboratory Scientist to support high-quality clinical testing in MUSC facilities. The role involves specimen preparation, routine testing, quality control, and troubleshooting instruments.

Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP BOC) or equivalent is preferred, with certification obtained within the first year if not currently certified.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or related medical/scientific discipline.
• Certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent, or certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.
• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology with MLS/MLT certification if not certified must be obtained within the first year.

Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens for testing and perform routine laboratory tests.
• Conduct quality control and maintenance procedures.
• Recognize computer data problems and troubleshoot laboratory instruments.
• Communicate technical information to medical staff and lay persons as needed.
• Assist with training laboratory personnel and participate in continuing education.
