Job summary

UP Health System Portage is seeking a Clinical Lab Scientist for PRN varied shifts to support lab operations. The role involves preparing samples, operating instruments, analyzing results, and reporting findings to clinicians. A commitment to quality and ongoing competency is required.

The position requires a Bachelor's Degree, ASCP Certification, and Basic Life Support (BLS). The lab provides opportunities for ongoing professional development and maintaining quality control procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• ASCP Certification required.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Responsibilities

• Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing.
• Operates laboratory equipment in a high-quality, effective manner.
• Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and reports/documents results per organizational standards.
• Performs automated tests using computerized instruments & automated equipment.
• Runs tests and analyzes the results to be reported to the patient, physician or registered nurse.
• Performs Quality Assurance work to ensure accuracy of equipment.
• Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.
• Performs and determines accuracy of technical lab procedures.
• Maintains records of procedures performed, the patient results and the quality control required for all procedures performed.
• Maintains accurate and complete records of all quality control tests completed.
• Assures that all out-of-control procedures are followed and that there is documentation of remedial actions taken.
• Performs all preventive maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, as assigned.
• Reads and understands all procedure manuals on an annual basis.
• Collects biological specimens.
• Prepares and forwards biological specimens to appropriate reference laboratory according to departmental procedures.
• Provides instruction to students/new employees with regard to procedures and departmental policies.
