Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans AffairsLaboratory Services is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to perform and supervise laboratory testing across multiple sections.

The role requires maintaining quality control, operating complex instrumentation, and collaborating with healthcare staff to ensure accurate patient results. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field and certification through ASCP BOC or AMT.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in medical technology or a related field.
• ASCP BOC/AMT Generalist certification required or equivalent.
• Foreign education deemed equivalent per VA standards.
• Experience or education criteria for GS-07 to GS-11 levels as described.

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of clinical laboratory science principles and apply them independently.
• Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation; document corrective actions.
• Evaluate specimen suitability and request new specimens when needed.
• Prepare specimens for analysis following established procedures.
• Calibrate and monitor instruments; ensure quality control and QA adherence.
• Communicate results and collaborate with the healthcare team.
