SUMMARY: Medical Technologist follows procedures, performs & documents chemical, microscopic, morphologic, immunologic, bacteriologic tests. Obtains accurate results within procedure limitations with a turnaround time as stated in the procedure manual. Follows Policy and Procedural guidelines for the communication of critical test results including the timeliness and documentation. Discovers & corrects problems in a timely manner. Corrective action documented as required. Communicates in a courteous & professional manner to other team members in the hospital. Performs & records instrumentation maintenance and calibration procedures. Performs quality control procedures and maintains their records. Ensures compliance with QC protocol for running controls & accepting results. Notifies supervisor with out of control, discrepant or unexpected results in a timely manner. Familiar with all pertinent computer procedures & contingency procedures. Verifies completion of work by various computer programs & assigned work is completed. Collects adequate venous & capillary blood specimens in a competent manner. Participates as instructed in the orientation of new team members. As requested, inventories & orders supplies as needed. Maintains adequate inventory of all laboratory material supplies and works toward reducing costs. Demonstrates flexibility in job duties. Assists in other areas of the laboratory and hospital as needed. Assumes additional or changed shift assignments when requested.
