Job summary

Baylor Medical Center Frisco is seeking a PRN Medical Laboratory Scientist to join its hospital laboratory team. The role focuses on providing high-quality testing support under the Laboratory Director, with responsibilities across pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree (or Associate) in a lab science, ASCP MT/MLS, AMT MT, or ASCP MLT certification, CPR, and solid computer skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science with at least one year of hospital laboratory experience, or Associates degree with at least two years experience in a hospital laboratory or minimum of 3 years in an accredited laboratory.
• Certification by MT/MLS (ASCP) or MT (AMT) or MLT (ASCP).
• CPR Required.
• Knowledge of governmental and regulating policies/standards.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to detect color and color changes.

Responsibilities

• Under the general direction of the Laboratory Director, provides superior quality laboratory testing support.
• Complies with department policies/processes to provide accurate results, quality products, and services; ensures valid results across pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases.
• Maintains knowledge of techniques and principles; operates instruments in assigned areas and understands inter-relationships and physiological conditions affecting results.
• Understands the LIS and its limitations concerning final printed report; recognizes when additional information is needed.
• Understands and applies sample quality control and equipment QC; correlates QC data to daily operations.
• Self-starter in identifying and owning opportunities for improvement.
• Assists others in troubleshooting and training new staff; manages daily workload.
• May obtain laboratory specimens by venipuncture when needed.
• Ensures equipment/instruments are clean, functional, and calibrated.
• Properly identifies specimens and addresses integrity issues; performs testing timely and accurately.
• Reviews and approves test reports and QC results; reports out-of-control situations as per protocol.
