Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking an experienced Lab Instructor to implement on-site laboratory and simulation experiences.

You will be responsible for nursing instruction, evaluating practice, and collaborating with faculty to create active learning in laboratory courses. Responsibilities include teaching six sections per term, maintaining lab facilities, proctoring exams, and mentoring other instructors.

Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing is required.
  • Current unencumbered Registered Nurse license in NY or eligible required.
  • 3 years nursing practice with direct patient care experience required.
  • Teaching experience in nursing preferred.
  • Online teaching experience preferred.
  • Simulation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct lab skills & nursing knowledge during scheduled lab sessions.
  • Teach six sections per term and provide in-person coverage as needed.
  • Instruct clinical sections as assigned.
  • Hold a minimum of 4 hours per week of open lab/office hours.
  • Evaluate student practice based on course rubrics and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with didactic faculty to develop active learning experiences for laboratory courses.
  • Maintain current knowledge of nursing curriculum, policies, and requirements.
  • Maintain clinical competence and knowledge in area of expertise.
  • Prepare lab for instruction and maintain facilities after use.
  • Collaborate with nursing didactic faculty and Director of Academic Operations on laboratory needs.
  • Communicate regarding needed laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with maintenance and cleaning of equipment; collaborate on repair needs.
  • Construct and update a laboratory maintenance, repair, and replacement master schedule to inform budgetary needs.
  • Communicate regarding biohazard materials, bloodborne pathogens and sharps disposal in accordance with policy to ensure public safety.
  • Organize and label supply cabinets.
  • Provide counseling to students on priorities and other matters; direct to appropriate persons for information or intervention.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with FERPA.
  • Participate in clinical orientation immersions as assigned.
  • Complete recommended training regarding simulation and nursing education; stay current with simulation recommendations.
  • Proctor exams as scheduled.
  • Attend scheduled meetings with course faculty, program meetings, workgroup meetings, etc.
  • Mentor and advise students as assigned.
  • Mentor additional lab instructors as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary:

Education and Experience:
  • Master of Science in Nursing required

  • Simulation experience preferred
Skills/Abilities:

The functions of the position are usually performed sitting but may require some amount of time standing. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying, and other movements may be required. Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, typewriter, calculator, etc., involve extensive wrist and hand movement. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above. Other duties as assigned.
