Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support the department with phlebotomy, specimen receiving and processing into the LIS, centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling and distribution to test sites. The role involves waived and moderately complex procedures, equipment maintenance and basic QC.

Responsibilities include specimen collection, order processing, patient testing setup, quality control documentation, inventory management, and adapting interactions to diverse patient

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required; phlebotomy training preferred.
• Experience in a controlled environment with safety protocols is preferred.
• Current Laboratory Assistant or Trainee license in the state of practice (LA) is required; Trainee license valid for first 180 days.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen collection.
• Processes orders.
• Performs patient testing and specimen setup.
• Performs and documents quality control.
• Orders, inventories and stocks supplies.
• Adapts communication and care to diverse patient populations.
• Other related duties as required.
