Job summary

Ochsner is seeking a Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomy role to support specimen collection, processing, and testing in a controlled hospital environment. You will handle orders, quality control, and inventory while maintaining patient privacy and professional communication with diverse patient populations.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, formal phlebotomy training, and a Louisiana license within 180 days. Hospital phlebotomy experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Formal phlebotomy training is preferred.
• Experience in a controlled environment with safety measures is required.
• 1 year hospital-based phlebotomy experience is preferred.
• Current License as a Laboratory Assistant or Laboratory Assistant Trainee in the state of practice is required.
• Trainee license valid for first 180 days; Louisiana license must be obtained within 180 days.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen collection.
• Processes orders.
• Performs patient testing and specimen setup.
• Performs and documents quality control and meets educational requirements.
• Orders, inventories and stocks supplies.
• Adapt behavior to the specific patient population and maintain professional communication.
• Other related duties as required.
