Job summary

Intermountain Healthcare in Murray, Utah, is seeking a Laboratorian Assistant to support histology-related tasks, sample processing, and patient care coordination in a fast-paced central laboratory.

You will use EMR/LIS systems to place orders, track specimens, and communicate results to care teams, while assisting with clerical and inventory duties and onboarding new staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Community college program, nursing student, EMT student, healthcare related program in progress.
• Previous healthcare and/or clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Order, receive, route, track, label and query test results using EMR/LIS.
• Provide clerical, administrative, and customer service support to the department.
• Dispatch couriers and communicate test results to nursing units and physician offices.
• Monitor and maintain supply inventory.
• Assist in the training and orientation of new associates.

This position facilitates laboratory organization and patient care, working closely with doctors, nurses, and medical laboratory scientists. LA I’s are responsible for ordering and preparing patient samples, such as blood and other body fluids, and delivering specimens to the appropriate department or testing facility. Preferred.Physical Requirements:Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
