Job summary

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute in Venice is seeking a Lab Assistant under the supervision of the Office Manager to collect, process and test specimens, document results, and assist with patient flow. You will perform in-house testing, ensure quality control, and maintain equipment and logs.

The role requires careful charting in the ONCO EMR and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification required within 30 days of employment.
• Minimum six months of active Medical Assistant experience.

Responsibilities

• Collects specimens from patients as ordered.
• Sends specimens to reference labs as needed.
• Maintains documentation per quality assurance programs (logs, reports, checklists).
• Charts patient results promptly and updates daily paperwork and logs.
• Performs in-house lab testing and processes results for charting.
• Operates and maintains lab equipment and workspace as directed.
• Performs hematology, chemistry, and immunology specimen analyses as required.
• Maintains inventory and viability of supplies before use in testing.
• Performs patient assessments, reconciles medications, and records history.
• Inputs data into the ONCO EMR system.
• Obtains vital signs and pain scores with accurate EMR documentation.
• Rooms patients according to office procedures.
• Complies with regulatory standards and safety policies.
• Prepares blood and bone marrow slides; assists in procedures.
• Maintains HIPAA/privacy of patient information.
• Completes CEUs annually to meet COLA requirements.
