Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a CLA II in the laboratory to support patient care and maintain quality in the lab. You will collaborate with main lab staff, nurses, and providers, enter and retrieve results in LIS, and verify instrument accuracy under supervision.

Responsibilities include receiving specimens, registering drop-offs, coordinating courier pickups, performing waived and moderate testing under CLS guidance, maintaining QC records, and ensuring correct referrals for outside testing.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Minimum 1 year of work experience in a general lab, specimen processing or phlebotomy area or enrolled in lab related education program.
• Phlebotomy certification or training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the main lab staff, other departments, nurses and providers to ensure excellent patient care.
• Receives specimens into the laboratory information system and inputs/retrieves lab results.
• Register specimen drop-offs (e.g., Home health) in LIS with accurate data entry.
• Properly processes specimens for transport to reference laboratories.
• Distributes specimens to the appropriate testing area.
• Verifies the accuracy of all instruments and test kits; responsible for quality control.
• Operate and maintain laboratory automation systems as appropriate.
• Performs diagnostic/analytic testing of specimens under supervision and reports results to provider.
• Ensures appropriate testing is ordered and properly identifies the correct reference laboratory for referred specimens.
