Job description

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant I (CLA I) performs phlebotomy, assists laboratory technicians in routine laboratory tests, and related duties. These duties include (but are not limited to):

• Collection of blood specimens
• Performing waived testing
• Clerical and courier functions
• Collection of chain of custody urine specimens
• Specimen processing

All CLA's are responsible for assisting with blood collections from outpatients, inpatients, and other patient types supported by Memorial Medical Center. The role requires striving for high standards of care and professionalism.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Graduate of a Phlebotomy Technician or Certified Medical Assistant program OR ability to become certified by an acceptable agency (AMT, ASCP, NHA, NCCT, or equivalent) within 1 year of hire
• Phlebotomy and/or clinical laboratory experience preferred
• Ability to use computer programs or become proficient with EPIC EMR within four weeks of hire
• Excellent customer service skills, working with all age groups
• Physical ability to push/pull objects weighing up to 35 lbs
• Ability to lift/carry objects weighing up to 10 lbs for 200 feet
• Good visual acuity and hearing ability
• Ability to work under stressful conditions
• Emotional stability to cope with mental and emotional stress
• Repetitive use of hands for manipulation, grasping, and wrist movements
