This role performs a variety of laboratory functions that support the department. The key responsibilities include phlebotomy; specimen receiving and processing into the Laboratory Information System (LIS); centrifugation; aliquoting, labeling, and distribution of specimens to the appropriate test sites; performing waived and moderately complex procedures; maintaining and monitoring laboratory equipment; and executing appropriate quality control measures.
The position requires medium to heavy activity, including lifting up to 30 lbs., bending, reaching, and stooping. Employees work at a counter/bench approximately 2½‑3½ ft. high. The work includes exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and potential communicable diseases, as well as hazardous medications and waste. Medical monitoring and protective equipment are required per institutional protocols.
