Job summary

Intermountain Health LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City seeks a Lab Caregiver to support specimen handling and patient care within a dynamic laboratory team. You will organize workflows, place orders in EMR/LIS, and coordinate with doctors, nurses, and laboratory staff to ensure timely testing and communication of results.

The role includes clerical support, supply management, and assisting in training new staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Healthcare-related program in progress preferred.
• Previous healthcare or clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Uses EMR/LIS to place orders, receive, route, label, and track specimens.
• Provides clerical, administrative, and customer service support to nursing units, physicians, and couriers.
• Dispatches couriers as required and communicates test results to care teams.
• Monitors and maintains supply inventory.

This position facilitates laboratory organization and patient care, working closely with doctors, nurses, and medical laboratory scientists. LA I’s are responsible for ordering and preparing patient samples, such as blood and other body fluids, and delivering specimens to the appropriate department or testing facility. Answers phones and provides information to nursing floor and physicians, office staff, couriers and patients. Dispatch of couriers, as required.Communicates test results and/or other reports to nursing units/physician offices. This may be in electronic form or printed form. Preferred.Physical RequirementsOngoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
