Position Summary

Clinical Instructor - Full Time, Days - NSG-In Service - 08:00 AM - 04:00 PM.

The Clinical Instructor will assume a major role in the orientation of new nursing personnel. The role includes educator, facilitator, change agent, consultant, researcher and leader, roles emerging from the ANA Scope and Standard of Practice for Nursing Professional Development.

Job Responsibilities
  • Collects pertinent information related to potential educational needs of the nurse using appropriate assessment techniques such as focus groups, questionnaires, evaluations of past programs and trend analysis.
  • Collects data from a variety of sources including the nurse, professional organizations, consumers, nursing experts, and trends in healthcare and advances in treatment and technology.
  • Derives target audience and learner needs from the assessment data.
Identification of Educational Outcomes
  • Identifies the general purpose and educational objectives for each learning activity.
  • Determines general-purpose statements and educational objectives from identified learner needs.
  • Ensures educational objectives are attainable with available resources.
  • Incorporates principles of adult learning into educational objectives.
Planning
  • Identifies and partners with content experts to develop activities that facilitate learner achievement of the educational objectives.
  • Documents the outline of the content.
  • Reflects adult learning principles in planning.
Implementation
  • Ensures that the planned educational activities are implemented.
  • Implements educational activities in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Maintains consistency with the planned general purpose, educational objectives and content outline.
Evaluation
  • Conducts a comprehensive evaluation of the educational activity.
  • Ensures evaluation is systematic, ongoing and criterion‑based.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the learning activity in relation to learner achievement of the objectives.
  • Incorporates evaluation data into future planning of educational activities.
Quality of Nursing Development Practice
  • Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of Nursing Professional Development practice.
  • Identifies aspects of nursing professional development practice important for quality monitoring.
  • Identifies indicators used to monitor quality and effectiveness.
  • Collects data to monitor quality and effectiveness.
  • Analyzes data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Formulates recommendations to improve nursing professional practice.
  • Participates on interdisciplinary teams that evaluate professional development.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current license to practice professional nursing in New York State.
  • Bachelor’s or BSN required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible nursing acute care experience.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of relevant educational content, including teaching and learning theories, principles of adult education, testing, measurement and evaluation.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of staff.
  • High level computer skills.
Required Licenses
  • Registered Nurse License – NYS
  • Basic Life Support Certificate
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certificate
