NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306‑bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women’s imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a designated Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, the hospital has multiple outpatient sites, including a wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

Position Summary

Clinical Coordinator, Alert Team – Full Time – Night Shift (7 p–8 a). Responsible for nursing care of critical patients and for hiring, training, orientation, and performance management of designated staff. Coordinates patient care, provides leadership, and consults with multidisciplinary teams.

Job Responsibilities

• Assume responsibility for shift issues in collaboration with Clinical Coordinators, Nursing Professional Development, NAS, and Nurse Managers, ensuring seamless 24‑hour support for critical patients.
• Collaborate on the development of nursing and departmental standards, monitoring compliance with state and local regulatory agencies.
• Participate in departmental initiatives that support goals and measurable outcomes.
• Model a leadership style that recognizes values and limitations of others, fostering open communication.
• Design safe, timely interventions, oversee the escalation process, and consider patient age and cultural groups.
• Maintain evidence‑based practice principles to improve clinical care through professional development.
• Manage and lead Codes & Rapid Responses, preparing staff for emergency situations.
• Demonstrate expert clinical practice and design interventions for diverse patient needs.
• Direct emergency situations and delegate staff as appropriate.
• Provide staff resource for departmental standards, policies, and procedures.

Management Of Personnel

• Lead and coordinate daily operational requirements to support staff and patient care.
• Develop and evaluate operational policies, procedures, and solutions to ensure effectiveness.
• Foster staff participation in improving unit operations through role‑modeling and mentoring.
• Approve daily staffing assignments and change requests based on acuity, volume, and competencies.
• Manage patient flow, consult with Nurse Managers, NAS, and DON, and prioritize activities when needed.
• Serve as liaison with other departments to promote the patient’s continuum of care, escalating issues to Night Administrator, Nurse Manager, NAS, or DON.
• Implement timely action plans for patient/family and department complaints, providing feedback to Quality Management and Patient Advocacy Office.

Performance Improvement Activities

• Evaluate dimensions of clinical practice, identify opportunities for change, and trend variances (e.g., restraints, falls, patient satisfaction).
• Build processes and encourage staff development to increase patient and staff satisfaction.
• Participate in Performance Improvement activities, DOH, IPRO, and regulatory agency reviews.

Staff Education

• Provide ongoing feedback and education on documentation practices, holding staff accountable for improvements.
• Participate in development and monitoring of the department budget and financial practices.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction and revenue enhancement.

Collegiality/Professionalism

• Identify self to the patient, wearing hospital ID and clarifying role in a respectful manner.
• Demonstrate actions supporting patient and family comfort and safety.
• Maintain professional decorum in all patient interactions, verbal or non‑verbal.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• Current and valid NYS Registered Nurse License.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, active through AHA.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, active through AHA.
• 3–5 years of nursing experience, expert level practice.
• Problem‑solving, mentorship, multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
• Excellent time‑management and priority‑setting skills.
• Capable of frequently lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs, pushing/pulling over 100 lbs, bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing steps/ladders, and reaching above shoulders.
• Required license: Registered Nurse License – NYS.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous nursing management experience.

Salary

Salary range: $84,956.87 – $134,127.10 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive, differential pay, or other benefits.
