Job summary

Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Clinical Instructor in nursing to guide and evaluate student competencies in both on-site and online clinical settings. The role includes coordinating simulations, conducting regular student check-ins, and ensuring accurate documentation and timely feedback.

The successful candidate will hold a Master’s in nursing (Doctoral preferred), hold an RN/APRN license with certification, and bring experience as a clinical educator.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in nursing is required; doctoral degree in nursing is preferred.
• Active, unencumbered RN and APRN license, with certification in the specialty area and at least 2 years of direct care in the APRN role.
• Prior experience as a clinical educator or preceptor is preferred.
• Strong organizational, written and oral interpersonal communication; professionalism and collaboration with diverse partners.

Responsibilities

• Guide, evaluate, and oversee attainment of clinical competencies for students precepted in clinical settings.
• Prepare for and participate in scheduled onsite and virtual student laboratories and simulations, including orientation and training.
• Engage students with weekly check-ins via phone or online platforms.
• Establish contact with the clinical preceptor at semester start, mid-term, and end, documenting interactions and addressing issues.
• Review clinical hours and patient logs, providing constructive weekly feedback.
• Grade student assignments promptly with constructive feedback.
• Ensure CET is completed at midterm and end; review findings with students and course coordinators.
• Identify at-risk students and develop remediation plans in consultation with course leadership.
• Verify clinical hours with preceptors every two weeks.
• Check Johns Hopkins email daily and respond within 48 business hours.
• Complete clinical site evaluations each semester; conduct local or virtual site visits as needed.
• Teach effectively online, guiding students and preceptors in navigating school software and digital tools.
