Job summary

UMass Amherst College of Nursing seeks a part-time Clinical Instructor A to teach one or more clinical courses in Amherst, onsite, with evaluation of student learning.

This role requires an MA RN license, a nursing degree, and at least two years of nursing experience. Responsibilities include maintaining FERPA certification, coordinating with the clinical coordinator, and timely communication.

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid Massachusetts RN license in good standing.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Minimum of two years full‑time nursing experience within the last five years and evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical instruction.
  • Evidence to demonstrate the maintenance of expertise appropriate to teaching responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach clinical courses.
  • Maintain FERPA certification each semester.
  • Contact the clinical coordinator or your program director within 24 hours with any student concerns or issues.
  • Notify the clinical coordinator and your program director prior to your absence from clinical and identifying your plan to make up the time.
  • Check UMass email every 24 business hours during the semester you are teaching.
  • Respond to UMass student email within 24 business hours.
  • Complete / maintaining immunization and licensing records on Exxat and providing skills/simulation lab coverage for your assigned students.
  • Evaluate student progression in ATI and using ATI Active learning strategies to create and evaluate student learning goals in the clinical experience.
  • Responsible for the completion of all clinical objectives.
  • Attending the Clinical Faculty Meetings at the beginning and end of the semester.
  • Meeting with the clinical coordinator two to three times during the semester.
  • Submitting clinical evaluation tool (CET) to the clinical coordinator by the end of the semester.
  • Submitting End of Course Evaluation at www.typhongroup.net/umass within 2 weeks after your course has ended for the semester.
  • Teaching schedules may vary from one semester to another, depending on program needs, available resources, and enrollment demand; the Associate Dean will assign workloads and schedules each semester.

Job Summary

Clinical Instructor to teach one or more clinical course(s) for the College of Nursing.

Essential Functions

This appointment carries a professional commitment to the university and a commitment to understand and adhere to applicable university and college of nursing policies. Article 13 of the current CBA outlines many faculty roles and responsibilities.

Initially, in this appointment, your workload will consist of:

  • Teaching clinical courses
  • Maintaining your Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) certification each semester
  • Contacting the clinical coordinator or your program director within 24 hours with any student concerns or issues
  • Notifying the clinical coordinator and your program director prior to your absence from clinical and identifying your plan to make up the time
  • Checking UMass email every 24 business hours during the semester you are teaching
  • Responding to UMass student email within 24 business hours

Minimum Qualifications

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Travel to community work locations
  • Work performed in a laboratory or healthcare setting; may involve exposure to chemicals or infectious diseases
  • Requires standing for extended periods of time and/or use of protective gear
Salary Information

$2,922.92 - $3,284.26 per credit, depending on nursing education/degree
