Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a pharmacist to oversee day-to-day patient-oriented services across pharmacy areas. The pharmacist will supervise staff, exercise clinical judgment, and help train interns and residents on shift.

Responsibilities include unit dose and IV admixture dispensing, medication review, order verification, and drug information for clinicians. Strong communication and collaboration are essential to improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Must hold a degree from an accredited college of pharmacy; residency in hospital pharmacy strongly preferred.
• Demonstrate acumen in verbal and written communication to disseminate drug information to health care personnel.
• Thorough understanding of pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy and ability to integrate into monitoring drug therapy.
• Participate in teaching programs including instruction and supervision of students and trainees.
• Ability to work with others to develop improved services for patients.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates the dispensing of unit dose, intravenous admixtures, investigational and research drugs to meet patient care needs.
• Identifies and monitors the pharmaceutical needs of patients.
• Reviews patient charts and interviews patients/physicians/nurses to obtain information for medication records; assesses drug therapy problems.
• Verifies medication orders for completeness and legality; ensures correct dose, route, frequency and duration.
• Provides supervision of supportive personnel assigned to shift.
• Participates in education and training of pharmacy students, residents, fellows and staff.
• Provides drug information for patients, physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.
• Conducts monthly nursing unit reviews as assigned.
• Assists in evaluating the performance of staff.
• Continuously evaluates therapeutic responses and provides dosing consultation as needed.
