Job Summary
Responsible for greeting clients and other for the College of Veterinary Medicine; schedule patients and confirm patient appointments; process patient payments and receipts. Works collaboratively with medical staff to assure client satisfaction.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1. Good computer skills necessary in order to set up document formats in Word, Excel, and any other software program required by this position. Familiarity with the Internet is helpful.
2. Good verbal and written communications skills. Veterinary medical terminology is helpful.
3. Skill with fax, copy machine, printer, telephone operation, and the ability to type at 40 words per minute.
4. Basic math skills.
5. Applicant must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language.
6. Applicant must have excellent interpersonal skill necessary to interact well with patients, staff, students, physicians, and the public; be culturally sensitive.
Required Qualifications
1. Education: Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Graduate Equivalency Diploma or High School Diploma required.
2. Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a similar or related position. Experience in a clinical medical setting is helpful. Customer service experience preferred.
3. Other: Must be at least 18 years old to perform duties involving radiography (x-ray) and exposure to radioactive substances.

1. Schedule patient appointments with the appropriate provider, while accommodating the patient’s needs.

2. Confirm scheduled appointments by contacting the patient one day prior to their physician visit.

3. Assist clients, if needed, with completion of registration forms and verify that all paper work is completed.

4. Assist outgoing clients by providing all necessary instructions, information, and invoices, dispensing prescription items per the veterinarian’s instructions, selling retail products, and scheduling future appointments.

5. Collect client payments, issue receipts, and post payments in the College’s practice management system. Reconcile the daily cash deposits collected.

6. Prepare the daily deposits for checks arriving in the mail, make copies of the checks and deposit slips for the medical billing department.

Duties of the Clinic Front Desk Reception/Cashier are normally performed in a typical clinic setting. Occasionally the employee is exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in this setting is usually moderate due to animals, telephone calls, office equipment, and normal student traffic. Duties are routinely performed in an environmentally controlled interior healthcare office. Work environment may involve exposure to potentially dangerous materials, e.g., blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, toxic substances, and ionizing radiation. Clinical environments require compliance with safety precautions, OSHA Blood borne pathogen training, and may include the use of certain personal protective equipment.
