Job summary

VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region is seeking a full-time Clinical Field Specialist to support Rutland and Bennington County home healthcare teams. You will provide clinical expertise, training, and in-field mentorship to RNs and caregivers to ensure safe, high-quality patient care in the home setting.

The role emphasizes promoting best practices, coordinating staff education, and collaborating with the Clinical Educator and management to enhance patient outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse with a Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
  • Two years of clinical acute care nursing experience preferred; home care and/or case management experience required; experience teaching adults in clinical settings preferred.
  • Valid Vermont Nursing license and driver's license; background checks; proof of auto insurance required.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary preceptor for new Homecare RNs in the Rutland & Bennington County service areas.
  • Assess learning needs and ensure clinical staff competency.
  • Lead/coordinate in-house educational activities and staff training.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Educator and Management to plan programs and evaluate outcomes.
  • Ensure staff follow agency policies and procedures; serve as field RN as directed.
  • Conduct competency assessments for aides and clinical staff.
  • Update and refine educational curriculum with Clinical Educator.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CLINICAL FIELD SPECIALIST

This position is responsible for providing clinical expertise, training, and support to home healthcare professionals, including nurses and caregivers, to ensure the safe and effective delivery of healthcare services in patients' homes. This position plays a crucial role in promoting best practices, optimizing patient outcomes, and enhancing the quality of care provided in the home setting. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the primary preceptor for new Homecare RNs in the Rutland & Bennington County service areas
  • Takes action to ensure technical competency of clinical staff by assessing individual learning
  • Leads/coordinates and/or serves as an in-house educational consultant to assist clinical teams
  • Assists with clinical staff training courses
  • Proactively collaborates with the Clinical Educator and Clinical Management team to plan, coordinate and evaluate activities/programs/projects
  • Provides educational support and/or structure for new employees
  • Ensures clinical staff are practicing within the policies and procedures of VNAHSR
  • Serves as homecare and/or hospice field RN as directed
  • Performs competency assessments for aides and clinical staff
  • Evaluates educational curriculum and collaborates with Clinical Educator to adjust and update as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Registered nurse with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree required. Master's preferred.
  • Minimum of two years clinical acute care nursing experience preferred with home care experience and/or previous case management experience in a home care setting required. Experience teaching adults in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Valid Vermont State Nursing license required. Valid state driver's license required. Ability to successfully pass pre-employment driver record, criminal, adult and child abuse background check/review required. Must show proof of auto insurance at time of employment.
