The Clinical Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting student placement activities across the organization in collaboration with academic partners and internal clinical leaders. This role acts as a key liaison between schools of all programs and clinical departments to ensure successful, timely, and compliant student clinical experiences. Additionally, the coordinator supports the Center for Clinical Excellence in delivering new employee orientation, new graduate nurse residency programs, and ongoing clinical education efforts linked to staff recruitment and retention. The role also involves maintaining compliance with Joint Commission standards related to clinical education and staff competency.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Act as the primary liaison to Saint Joseph Medical Center regarding local nursing schools and other clinical education programs.
  2. Coordinate clinical placements for students in collaboration with academic institutions and internal departments.
  3. Oversee all school-affiliated and contractual student placements; initiate and facilitate affiliation agreements with the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) and UMMS General Counsel.
  4. Manage and update the Exxat student reservation platform to maintain accurate records of student schedules, documentation, and onboarding compliance.
  5. Communicate regularly with academic partners, hospital leadership, and unit managers to confirm placement needs, timelines, and expectations.
  6. Collaborate with unit and departmental leadership and preceptors to ensure student placement capacity, instructor readiness, and clinical learning alignment.
  7. Facilitate student and instructor onboarding processes, including background checks, health requirements, orientation scheduling, and compliance documentation.
  8. Review and update clinical practice information in onboarding materials for students and instructors.
  9. Support UMMS student and preceptor strategic initiatives to enhance academic partnerships locally and systemwide.
  10. Coordinate and support practicum placements, ACE (Academic Clinical Educator) programs, and the P-3 Program, including candidate support and interview scheduling with managers.
  11. Assist in recruiting hospital employees to serve as ACE instructors in partnership with Nursing Leadership.
  12. Support planning and facilitation of new employee orientation and nurse residency programs in collaboration with the Center for Clinical Excellence.
  13. Prepare and maintain educational materials, rosters, and communication for orientation and residency programs as needed.
  14. Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards in all areas related to clinical education, student coordination, and instructor onboarding.
  15. Track and report data related to student placements, program evaluations, and onboarding participation to support quality improvement and strategic planning.
  16. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • 4-year / Bachelor’s Degree (Required)
  • Experience in academic partnership coordination, new hire onboarding, or residency program support is preferred.
