Job summary

Hartford HealthCare seeks a Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS 1) to perform extensive medical record reviews and interact with physicians and nurses to ensure accurate documentation of severity of illness and quality of care.

The CDS will mentor new staff, participate in CDI policy development, and collaborate with coding and quality teams to improve documentation and reimbursement. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree or equivalent experience.
• RN licensed in CT with 5 years of acute care hospital experience.
• Prefer CCDS/CDIP certification.
• 2+ years of CDS experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records to assess severity of illness and quality of care.
• Formulate clinically credible documentation clarifications/queries.
• Educate providers on responses to queries in the medical record.
• Collaborate with inpatient coders to determine DRG assignments.
• Meet revenue cycle goals and CDI productivity standards.
• Participate in CDI meetings and training; mentor junior CDS.
