**Remote - Work From Home Position**
The Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist is responsible for improving overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation to ensure that the information in the medical record accurately reflects the patient's severity of illness, clinical needs, and utilization of resources. This position reviews death medical records to ensure the severity of illness and risk of mortality has been captured at the highest level. It works with providers to capture clinical care in code format for reimbursement and to ensure UAMS has the correct case mix. Reviews all admission types to ensure severity is captured and educates providers on admission types.

- Applies extensive clinical knowledge to analyze health record documentation, identifying diagnoses, treatments, and procedures impacting acuity and resource use. Uses disease processes, surgical procedures, UHDDS definitions, and ICD-10 guidelines for coding and reporting.
- Reviews death records and uses Vizient calculator to ensure accuracy of risk of mortality and severity scores. Ensures severity is captured in all hospital admissions.
- Interacts with physicians, nursing staff, coding staff, and other healthcare team members to clarify documentation and facilitate accurate coding and reimbursement. Ensures documentation is clear, concise, and specific.
- Develops and delivers education on clinical documentation, coding guidelines, and regulatory requirements through various formats.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
