Qualifications

Job description

Overview

We're seeking a Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (CDIS) RN to join our team! In this role, you'll perform concurrent review of medical records to ensure complete and accurate clinical documentation supporting severity of illness, risk of mortality, hospital outcomes, and reimbursement. The role requires attention to detail, process orientation, and the ability to think globally about documentation needs. Effective communication with physicians and clinicians is essential to promote accurate documentation during patient care. The CDIS supports hospital compliance in diagnosis and procedural coding, DRG assignment, SOI, and ROM accuracy.

Position Details

This position is remote/work from home, within 60 miles of a UnityPoint health affiliate in IL, IA, or WI. It is subject to pre-hire testing.

Responsibilities
  • Review medical records to ensure documentation supports diagnosis codes and patient acuity.
  • Support DRG assignment accuracy based on diagnostic and procedural data.
  • Utilize compliant query processes and document follow-up thoroughly.
  • Maintain integrity and compliance in documentation reviews and queries.
  • Use CDI software effectively and meet productivity and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with coding staff, physicians, and hospital departments to improve documentation and resolve issues.
Qualifications
  • RN license required; BSN or higher preferred.
  • Five years of adult acute care RN experience in med/surg, critical care, emergency, or utilization review.
  • Preferred experience in clinical documentation improvement and chart review.
  • Knowledge of ICD CM/PCS coding guidelines.
  • Certifications such as CCDS or CDIP are preferred.
