Summary
The Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) RN Advisor primarily functions in facilitating overall quality, completeness, and accuracy of health record documentation to appropriately capture patient severity of illness and resource allocation for a patient population. This role aims to improve patient outcomes, accuracy of VERA funding, and third-party reimbursement. The CDI RN collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including program and service leaders at the facility, practice setting, and network levels.
Qualifications Basic Requirements:
- English Language Proficiency
- In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (ACEN or CCNE) at the time the program was completed.
- OR individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing with coursework equivalent to a bachelor's degree, with opportunity to become registered prior to completion.
- Upon licensure, individuals may be appointed temporarily and later converted to a permanent appointment.
- Foreign nursing graduates must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration, with degree equivalency validated if higher than an associate degree.
- Current unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception: Candidates without licensure may be appointed temporarily while pursuing licensure, with possible extension.

Physical Requirements:
- Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity.
- Potentially long periods of walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing.
- May need to transfer patients and objects; mechanical lifts are provided.
- Exposure to infected patients, contaminated materials, and possibly to patients who are combative.
- Must be mature, flexible, and capable of working effectively under stress, with the ability to shift priorities.

Duties
- Provide high-quality healthcare to veterans, emphasizing the natural beauty and lifestyle of Colorado.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, including patient education and self-management.
- Administer medications and procedures per policies.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to influence care outcomes.
- Function as a Clinical Documentation Integrity Consultant, performing chart reviews, data collection, and communication with providers and leadership regarding documentation trends and recommendations.
- Support CDI program processes through communication and committee involvement.
- Maintain relationships and collaborate with compliance, quality, utilization management, and other departments.
- Provide leadership in designated projects, establish effective relationships with VA staff nationwide.
- Assist in education, orientation, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Preferred experience includes three or more years of acute care nursing, prior CDI or quality RN experience, knowledge of ICD-10, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
