Department: Health System Shared Services | MIM CDI and Coding
The Clinical Documentation Improvement Analyst is a nurse or other clinically qualified individual responsible for concurrent review of inpatient medical records to identify opportunities for improving documentation quality. This includes identifying cases where diagnoses and procedures are absent, not in appropriate terminology, or not properly recorded. The CDIS will confer with caregivers on necessary documentation to ensure complete records by patient discharge, reflecting diagnoses, treatments, and severity of illness, and supporting coding and DRG assignment.
This role supports initiatives to enhance documentation quality across the Ohio State University Health System, focusing on supporting accurate coding, improving quality measures, and increasing the Case Mix Index (CMI). The CDIS adheres to The Joint Commission, Medicare, third-party payer guidelines, and ICD-10-CM coding standards, assisting healthcare providers in documentation processes.
