Job summary

Essentia Health is seeking an Education Liaison in Clinical Documentation to improve provider documentation and present an accurate clinical picture of patient illness severity, risk, and resource use. The role collaborates with physicians, leadership, and departments to promote high-quality coding and documentation practices.

The position supports orientation and education for clinicians, with data-driven recommendations and projects spanning moderate to high complexity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in health information management (RHIA), business or healthcare management.
• 1 year experience in Revenue Cycle or Health Information Management.
• Must obtain one of CPC, CCS or RHIA within 2 years of hire.
• Remote position with on-site visits for special projects.

Responsibilities

• Acts as education liaison between coding services and operational leadership, physicians, and departments.
• Provides support for orientations, section meetings, and education sessions for clinicians with documentation and coding complexity.
• Guides and educates on coding concepts related to E/M, CPT, ICD-10, and HCC diagnoses.
• Active concurrent review and education to improve documentation for accurate MS-DRG assignments and risk profiling.

Work on efforts to improve provider clinical documentation and providing an accurate clinical picture of the patient including severity of illness, risk, professional and resource utilization.

Education Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

• Acts as the education liaison between coding services and operational leadership, Medical Professionals, and departments throughout Essentia Health
• Provides support (New Physician/APP orientations, Section Meetings, One on One Education sessions, etc.) to physicians/advanced professional providers with moderate to high documentation and coding complexity and risk
• Collaborates and provides guidance/education on coding concepts related to E/M, CPT, ICD-10, and HCC diagnoses
• Provide active concurrent review, feedback, and education to improve documentation of all conditions and treatments in the inpatient medical record, to ensure an accurate reflection of the patient condition(s) in the associated MS-DRG assignments, case-mix index, severity of illness and risk of mortality profiling and reimbursement
• Proactively identifies opportunities and develops recommendations through data analysis and leads projects with moderate to high complexity, risk, and scope. Remote position with as needed on-site visits for special projects or department/section meetings

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited health information management program (RHIA), Business or Healthcare management program

Required Qualifications

• 1 year experience within Revenue Cycle, Health Information Management or Hospital/Clinic
• Knowledge in Clinical Documentation areas, desirable: Evaluation & Management, Coding, DRG, Value Based, Risk Adjustment, Accountable Care Organization, Population Health, and Quality initiatives
• Must obtain one of the following coding/documentation certifications within 2 years of hire
  • Certified Coding Professional or Specialists (CPC, CCS)
  • Certified Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
