Location: SAINT LOUIS, MO 63110 | Scheduled Hours: 40

Position Summary

The Clinical Director will oversee a growing clinical operation of specialty and teaching practices and clinics within the Department of Psychiatry. This leader will focus on the academic campus to administer planning, as well as develop, organize, and implement medical services activities and management systems that support the successful operations and fiscal integrity of the organization.

The Clinical Director will lead growth and structure development to ensure integrity and stability, and lend expertise and knowledge to all clinical operations with the Department of Psychiatry with a particular focus on the academic campus.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Administration: Designs and coordinates a plan with various leadership members, including practicing physicians and other management staff to provide quality medical services in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Administration: Designs and implements process to accommodate patients with urgent medical needs on a same-day basis and patients with routine medical needs on a scheduled basis.
  • Administration: Provides administrative supervision for clinical managers in designated service areas.
  • Administration: Tracks key operating statistics and provides management reports.
  • Administration: Coordinates patient care services with department administrators, division administrators, the Faculty Practice Plan (FPP), other School of Medicine clinical departments, Barnes Jewish Hospital and other external organizations, such as home care agencies.
  • Planning: Regularly secures and disseminates legal and reimbursement information to maintain compliance with changing legislation and regulations.
  • Planning: Implements tactical and strategic planning processes to address changes in services and volume, including formulating recommendations in response to requests for changes in sessions, staffing or exam room utilization.
  • Organization: Oversees the development of an efficient and effective organization of professional and support staff to meet the personnel resource needs of the organization.
  • Organization: Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of clinical operations using new and established clinical practice and service standards and recommends required changes.
  • Organization: Implements approved changes.
  • Organization: Formulates, recommends, implements and evaluates policies and procedures required to execute the ambulatory care activities.
  • Organization: Develops and administers a quality improvement program that addresses risk management, patient complaints, patient satisfaction and provider satisfaction issues, including evaluating the role of technological advances.
  • Organization: Participates in committees and work groups impacting operations such as the FPP, WUSM and medical center hospitals.
  • Organization: Ensures coordination of activities with the departmentally-based activities of scheduling, registration, medical records’ management, chart preparation, pre-certification and charge capture.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Drafts the operating budget for ambulatory care activities.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Administers the operational budget through assignment of accountability to pertinent staff.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Interprets the budget to staff, emphasizing the importance of economic resource utilization while maintaining quality service deliver, both medical and operational.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Tracks routine and unusual expenses consistent with the allocation methodology approved by the Steering Committee.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Coordinates purchasing to ensure timely and adequate provision of materials required for the ambulatory care activities.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Participates in the design and utilization of space to accommodate required ambulatory care activities while conserving and making maximum use of existing resources.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Designs a process to ensure early detection and/or prevention of threats that result in lost revenue or increased operational costs.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Implements Patient Financial Services’ standards.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Designs and implements processes to facilitate timely charge capture and to address complex billing issues related to the procurement of and charges for pharmaceuticals.
  • Human Resources: Develops and conducts staff development programs where appropriate.
  • Human Resources: Ensures staff’s certification in patient service quality, IDX modules and requisite nursing skills.
  • Human Resources: Conducts performance evaluations.
  • Human Resources: Recommends and/or assists in the design of incentive programs to maintain a high level of staff motivation, process improvement and job enrichment.
