Position Overview

Accountable for delivering quality patient care through effective leadership and resource management within the program area. Responsible for the development, operation, and evaluation of the program. This role requires visionary leadership, knowledge of healthcare trends, strategic benchmarking, and innovative interventions. Also accountable for supporting the service and mission of the institution.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education, Certification, and Licensure:
  • Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses or appropriate state board, or multi-state licensure via the Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification or ability to obtain within one year if at a WVU Medicine hospital.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialty certification is desirable.
  • Master of Science in Nursing.
Experience
  • At least four (4) years of nursing experience, including two years in management.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

This section describes the general nature of work and is not an exhaustive list of duties. Other responsibilities may be assigned.

  1. Advise the Director of Nursing on staffing, recruitment, and retention.
  2. Maintain personnel records.
  3. Assist in developing and implementing ongoing educational programs.
  4. Provide feedback on performance, conduct evaluations, and counsel employees.
  5. Monitor budgets and justify variances.
  6. Contribute to annual budget preparation for the cost center.
  7. Optimize resource utilization and staffing patterns to ensure cost-effective patient care.
  8. Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and resolve issues promptly.
  9. Promote patient satisfaction and monitor HCAHPS scores, initiating improvement plans.
  10. Serve as a resource to PI teams.
  11. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  12. Monitor expenses and ensure funds are used appropriately.
  13. Maintain effective communication with medical staff, patients, and other departments.
  14. Lead relevant committee meetings.
  15. Assess patient/family satisfaction issues through rounds and take corrective actions.
  16. Ensure compliance with standards set by accrediting bodies.
  17. Oversee professional development and training of staff.
  18. Plan, organize, and evaluate nursing care delivery according to standards.
Physical Requirements
  • Minimize manual patient lifting; use equipment for transfers.
  • Require strength and stamina for lifting and moving materials over 40 lbs.
