Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking an experienced Nutrition Counselor to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy within the hospital system. The role emphasizes accurate, empathetic counseling and nutrition education to improve patient health outcomes across Oncology clinics and related departments.

The position requires licensure within MA and, ideally, a Registered Dietitian on hire. Responsibilities include nutrition assessment, care planning, interdepartmental collaboration, and patient education

Qualifications

• Experience in individual or group counseling, teaching, or health education.
• Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Board of Registration of Dietitians and Nutritionists within 6 months of hire.
• Preferred: Registered Dietitian upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Completes nutrition assessment and reassessment of patients according to department standards.
• Meets with patients to address their needs and develop strategies for success, including outpatient counseling within Oncology Clinics and other Lahey Health departments.
• Interprets risk factor profiles and conveys results to patients.
• Presents complex medical information in an understandable way.
• Maintains focus on the impact of nutrition and behavior change on overall health.
• Communicates with medical and operational staff to exchange patient information and coordinate care.
• Evaluates and monitors patient care plans for nutrition and behavior change.
• Works with patients to reinforce lifestyle changes for disease prevention and weight management.
• Educates patients to optimize their nutritional outcomes.
• Demonstrates improved health outcomes as a result of Medical Nutrition Therapy.
• Schedules appointments, documents visits, and processes charges accurately.
• Coordinates timely submission of patient information to medical offices as needed.
• Coordinates monthly data and community reports to Clinical Nutrition Manager.
