Job summary

MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center seeks a Clinical Dietitian to assess patients, develop medical nutrition plans, and coordinate nutrition care within the care team. You will work with physicians, nurses, and pharmacists to tailor nutrition therapy and education to each patient’s needs.

The role requires clinical expertise in dietetics, licensure, and active AND membership, with opportunities to influence patient outcomes through timely nutrition interventions and education.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in dietetics, nutrition required or equivalent
• 1-2 years healthcare experience required
• Current state licensure/registration required
• Active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required
• CNSD - Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian; CDR registration preferred

Responsibilities

• Assess patients to establish diet and food guidelines and review medical orders
• Develop and implement individualized medical nutrition therapy plans
• Provide nutrition support plans including enteral and parenteral nutrition
• Coordinate with Food Service to ensure diet prescriptions conformance
• Calculate nutritional needs and diet restrictions including food/drug interactions
• Complete nutritional assessments and participate in interdisciplinary rounds
• Prepare or obtain patient nutrition education materials
• Educate patients about diet and treatment impact in plain terms
• Monitor and adjust nutrition therapy for effectiveness
• Plan menus to support palliative treatment needs
• Document care plans and patient responses in medical records
• Serve as a nutrition resource for medical and nursing teams
• Direct clinical staff to maintain productivity and workflow
• Participate in Performance Improvement and Infection Control meetings
• Conduct rounds to identify nutritional problems
• Provide ongoing nutrition counseling and outcome tracking
• Coordinate with physicians and health care personnel on nutritional care
• Evaluate food service quality against dietary prescriptions
• Assist with new staff orientation and tray line procedures
