About ECU Health Medical Center:
ECU Health Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina, is the 974-bed flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the primary teaching hospital for The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. It has achieved Magnet designation twice and provides acute, intermediate, rehabilitation, and outpatient health services to a 29-county region with over 1.4 million residents.

Position Summary:
The Clinical Dietitian delivers direct, patient-centered care, utilizing proficient clinical nutrition skills and knowledge. The RDN plans and delivers nutritional care throughout the patient’s life cycle, in accordance with physician diagnoses, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based literature. The role involves collaboration within an interdisciplinary team to develop, implement, and evaluate nutrition care plans, ensuring safe, evidence-based, individualized care following ECU Health policies.

Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in and facilitate quality improvement activities, safety huddles, and system-wide task forces to optimize patient outcomes.
  2. Collect and analyze data to monitor care quality, utilizing tools like Gap and SWOT analyses, and develop best practices based on research and performance data.
  3. Support research activities by participating in data collection and analysis.
  4. Assist in training new staff, interns, and students to ensure understanding of policies and procedures.
  5. Model service excellence and professional behaviors.
  6. Perform comprehensive nutrition assessments, including physical assessments and analysis of medical records, to develop individualized care plans.
  7. Identify nutrition diagnoses using standardized language and develop intervention plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  8. Implement and document nutrition interventions, modify diets, and provide patient education and counseling.
  9. Continuously monitor and evaluate patient outcomes, revising care plans as needed.
  10. Maintain effective interdisciplinary relationships and coordinate with external providers for continuity of care.
  11. Provide education and training to staff and patients, including group classes and in-service presentations.
  12. Engage in ongoing professional development and serve as a resource for students and fellows.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Dietetics, Food and Nutrition, or related field.
  • Successful completion of an AND-approved dietetic internship or equivalent, with practicum experience.
  • RDN, LDN, or successful RDN exam completion, with NC licensure within 3 months of hire.
  • Zero years of experience as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.

Other Information: This is a PRN (as needed) position.
