The Clinical Dietitian collaborates with a multidisciplinary healthcare team at the Youth Behavioral Hospital (YBH) and UNC Medical Center to provide evidence-based medical nutrition therapy aligned with patient-focused medical goals. Responsibilities include applying the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), conducting physical exams, assessing nutrition/malnutrition, diagnosing, intervening, monitoring, and evaluating patient progress. The role involves using practice-specific dietetics and evidence-based guidelines to determine appropriate interventions, managing resources efficiently, and participating in quality improvement efforts. The Clinical Dietitian plays a key role in team conferences, provides nutrition education, and contributes to policy development. The position may also involve community nutrition programs and requires maintaining professional competencies. Additionally, the dietitian precepts interns and supports staff training.
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited US university with coursework approved by ACEND; a Master's degree is required for new graduates after 1/1/2024. Completion of an ACEND-accredited dietetics internship or coordinated program is necessary.
Licensing: Registered Dietitian (RD) credential and licensure as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) in North Carolina. Additional credentials may be required for billing.
Experience: No prior experience required, except for specific roles such as Cardiac Rehab which requires two years of relevant experience.
Skills: Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process, medical nutrition therapy, motivational interviewing, critical thinking, communication, counseling, and proficiency in software tools.
