Driscoll Children’s Hospital is a leader in pediatric healthcare, dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to children across South Texas. We are seeking a Clinical Dietitian for our Specialty Clinic in Brownsville, TX.

Position Details: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. This position qualifies for a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Provides nutrition support to pediatric patients in both ambulatory and inpatient settings as needed.
  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings, staff development, and professional programs.
  • Provides medical nutrition therapy (MNT) using evidence-based practice.
  • Consults with health care team to ensure efficient nutrition care of patients.
  • Utilizes Academy standards in daily practice to improve pediatric nutrition and dietetics care.
  • Evaluates nutritional status and implements individualized nutrition care plans.
  • Monitors and verifies changes in nutrition prescriptions and educates patients accordingly.
  • Educates patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Processes charges for MNT services provided as appropriate.
  • Coordinates with Clinical Nutrition Manager on patient care aspects.
  • Maintains monthly patient records for statistical reporting.
  • Coordinates and conducts periodic tray assessments with culinary staff.
  • Participates in ongoing process improvement activities.
  • Maintains professional growth through required competencies.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Position may require travel to and from Pediatric Subspecialty Centers located in Harlingen, McAllen, Brownsville, Corpus Christi, and Victoria.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in nutrition or related field from a US regionally accredited university or college and course work accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Successful completion of Dietetic Internship Program approved by ACEND. Has met the didactic and supervised practice requirements to write the registration examination for dietitian nutritionist, has Verification Statement. Eligible for registration.
  • Bilingual (Spanish): Ability to speak and write Spanish highly preferred.
  • Zero to three (0-3) years dietitian experience.
  • If considered for Dialysis Services: minimum of one (1) year experience with valid RDN and LD credentials (post Dietetic Internship), required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Current Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutrition Certification by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • State licensure by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR), must obtain licensure within three (3) months of obtaining Registration, required.
  • Food Manager’s Permit or Food Safety Certification, required.
