Position Summary:

The Data Specialist reviews selection criteria, evaluation parameters, and analyzes diagnostic information to determine inclusion and exclusion of clinical data entry into the database. This role gathers clinical data from various medical records and internal and external data sources for reporting to registry stakeholders. The Data Specialist compiles all required information, including outcome and process measures, annual follow-up, and ongoing vital status. This data is critical for operational reporting, quality and safety reporting, and mandated regulatory reporting to federal and state health agencies. It also supports patient care management, research, epidemiological studies, and state and national data submissions. The role supports Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins Bayview, Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center, Suburban Hospital, Sibley Hospital, and All Children’s Hospital. The position reports to the Registry Manager.

Requires successful completion of:

a) Associate’s degree from an accredited schoolOR

b) 2 years of related work experience

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Abstract clinically relevant data from electronic medical records and report to registry or hospital databases.
  • Respond to all requests for information based on a thorough understanding of the registry products.
  • Interpret data definitions clinically in accordance with registry reporting standards.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Assist with report generation and communication pathways.
  • Support data submission processes, quality assurance, and control processes.
  • Assist with data mining for projects.
  • Complete annual requirements for registry certification maintenance, if applicable.
  • Communicate results and initiatives via scorecards, dashboards, newsletters, memos, emails, etc.
  • Support the collection of materials for reports and presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: Minimum $23.96 per hour - Maximum $39.57 per hour. Compensation will be based on equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls before any subsequent compensation discussions.
